This 100 year old Arts and Crafts home was a well preserved monument to a way of life that existed when it was built. It had many bedrooms but lacked “living space” and a connection to the outside. A previous renovation had converted the butler’s pantry into a small dark kitchen. By opening up the back wall, the kitchen was enlarged to include a breakfast area, island, pantry and desk. The project also added seating around a new hearth, a mudroom & cubby area and created access to the yard. The modifications, while traditional in vocabulary, are modern in approach. This project is featured in Philadelphia Magazine’s Home & Garden Summer 2006 issue.
